WHAT CEROXIM TABLETS ARE AND WHAT THEY ARE USED FOR
Ceroxim Tablets contain cefuroxime axetil, which is an oral prodrug of the antibiotic cefuroxime. Cefuroxime belongs to a group of antibiotics called the second-generation cephalosporins. Antibiotics help the body fight infections by destroying certain bacteria that cause infection. Ceroxim Tablets are used to treat bacterial infections. Some of these infections are infections of the throat or tonsils, ear and of the lungs or lower airways such as bronchitis and pneumonia, in children and adults. Ceroxim Tablets are also used to treat infections of the sinuses in adults. It may be prescribed for other infections as determined by your doctor.

BEFORE YOU TAKE CEROXIM TABLETS
Do not take Ceroxim Tablets if: • You are allergic (hypersensitive) to cefuroxime axetil or any of the other ingredients of Ceroxim Tablets listed at the end of the leaflet (An allergic reaction may include rash, itching, swelling of face, lips, or hands/feet or breathing difficulties) • You have previously had an allergic reaction to any other cephalosporin (such as cefalothin, cefalexin, cefadroxil, cefazolin, cefprozil, cefuroxime, cefpodoxime, ceftazidime, ceftriaxone .etc.) Ceroxim Tablets should not be used in children below 6 years of age. Take special care with Ceroxim Tablets and talk with your doctor if: • You have previously had an allergic reaction to penicillin antibiotics (such as piperacillin, ticarcillin, ampicillin, amoxicillin, oxacillin, cloxacillin, flucloxacillin, nafcillin etc.); you may also be allergic to cefuroxime axetil, you should be strictly monitored while taking this medicine • You suffer from kidney problems. Laboratory Tests
This medicine may interfere with the results of some laboratory tests done on blood (used in the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases and pregnancy .etc.) and urine (to check urine sugar levels). Taking other medicines

Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Your doctor may prescribe Ceroxim Tablets when you are pregnant, if he/she feels it is clearly necessary. Please inform your doctor if you plan a pregnancy or become pregnant while using Ceroxim Tablets Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. Breast feeding You may breast feed when on treatment with Ceroxim Tablets. However, if the baby develops loose stools (diarrhoea), fungal infection (candidiasis) or skin problems, you should either discontinue breast feeding or change your medication. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.

Driving and using machines
Ceroxim Tablets are not known to affect your ability to drive and use machines. Make sure you know how you react to your medicine before you drive, use machines, or engage in any other activity that could be dangerous if you are not alert.

Important information about some of the ingredients of Ceroxim Tablets Your medicine contains small quantities of inactive ingredient called sucrose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars (intolerance to fructose, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrase isomaltase deficiency) contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product. Your medicine also contains small quantities sodium. This should be taken into consideration if you are on a low sodium diet.

HOW TO TAKE CEROXIM TABLETS
Always take Ceroxim Tablets exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. Ceroxim Tablets should be taken in 2 doses every day, 12 hours apart. Do not chew or crush them but swallow each one whole with a glass of water, about 15 to 30 minutes after breakfast or dinner. Dosage Adults The usual adult dose for infections of the throat, tonsils, sinuses or ear and for infections of the lower airways (bronchitis) is 250 mg given twice daily. The usual adult dose for infection of the lungs (pneumonia) is 500 mg given twice daily. Children For children more than 6 years of age, who can swallow tablets, the usual dose is: Infections of the throat, tonsils or ear and for infections of the lower airways (bronchitis) − If body weight is less than 17 kg – 15 mg/ kg given twice daily − If body weight is more than or equal to 17 kg – 250 mg given twice daily Infection of the lungs (pneumonia) − If body weight is less than 34 kg – 15 mg/ kg given twice daily − If body weight is more than or equal to 34 kg -500 mg given twice daily Patients with kidney problems Your doctor will decide your dose based on your kidney function. If you suffer from severe kidney problems, your dose may be lower than that for other adults. If you have the impression that the effect of Ceroxim Tablets is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. If you take more Ceroxim Tablets than you should Consult your doctor or go to the nearest hospital casualty department immediately. Take this leaflet or some capsules with you so your doctor will know what you have taken. If you forget to take Ceroxim Tablets Take them as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for forgotten individual doses. If you stop taking Ceroxim Tablets You must take this medicine for as long as your doctor has told you to. The duration may be longer if your infection is severe or persistent. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, Ceroxim Tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Ceroxim

Ceroxim is a medication that is used to treat some types of bacterial infections such as infections of the skin, throat, ears, urinary tract and sinuses as well as other infections such as Lyme disease, bronchitis and gonorrhea. It is in a category of medications called cephalosporin antibiotics that works to cease bacteria growth. Ceroxim is not effective for viral infections such as colds and flu.

Ceroxim comes dispensed in both tablet form and liquid form. It is taken twice each day for a period of 7-10 days. When used to treat Lyme disease, it is taken for 20 days and when used to treat gonorrhea, it is used as a single dose only. The tablet form can be taken with or without food but the liquid form must be taken with food. It is important that you take the medication exactly as directed on the prescription label and that you do not take more or less than what is prescribed to you.

The liquid form of Ceroxim should be shaken well before consuming so that it is evenly mixed. The tablets must be swallowed whole and not crushed, chewed or split and needs to be taken with a glass of water. Both the tablet and liquid form should be completely taken until finished.

Ceroxim does have some side effects associated with it, as with most medications. Some of the most common side effects that should go away with time and should not get worse include upset stomach, stomach pain, diarrhea and vomiting. If you experience more severe side effects, you should immediately contact your doctor. These side effects include severe rash of the skin, itching, hives, wheezing, troubles with breathing or swallowing, diaper rash, itching or discharge from the vaginal area and sores in the mouth or throat that are extremely painful.
